Babel and the Day of Pentecost
The outpouring on the Day of Pentecost was a special day for all believers in Jerusalem. Jesus had told the disciples to wait for the promised Holy Spirit. “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49)
Having the Spirit in salvation and being filled with the Spirit are two entirely different events in a Christian’s life. When I would get around other Christians, I would sense a unity that was supernatural. The Holy Spirit was bringing this unity among my new friends. I also noticed that my prayer language was bringing harmony to my life with God. When I would pray in the Spirit, I would sense oneness with God and His plan for me. Also, when I would pray in the Spirit with others, I would sense that same harmony spreading among us. What were we all saying in our heavenly languages, I wondered? Later, the Lord Jesus explained to me that Pentecost was the reversal of the curse at the tower of Babel!
Unity of the Faith
Now, when we agree on anything, it is done for us in Heaven. This is a profound mystery concerning speaking and believing together in harmony. Unity must be established and maintained in the body of Christ. This is why satan fights unity so much. Satan knows that we will get everything that we agree upon!
